One friend of mine, father of another friend, has a favorite saying he uses whenever he sees someone acting both unusually and in a way that amuses those present: "Check for pods." It's a reference to an old science fiction movie. I think it's "Invasion of the Body Snatchers." In it, alien life forms replace humans with near replicas. But I guess the replicas had to wear hats, because a small shoot, with a couple of green leaves, would otherwise be seen growing from the top of the replica's head. Given the range of shapes he can take, Red, the fox-amoeba cross, has developed into a practical joker. He also thinks Peter has a lot going for him, so much that Red expects even Dr. Luther to be astonished. Peter may be a savant, at least about economics. And this lets me slip in what I hope is a little painless economic education. I know lots of people suffer when they try to understand it, and it's part of our lives, whether we like it or not. So I hope I'm helping.
