The other animal story out of the Middle East, right before the start of the VCU fall term, was reported by National Public Radio, among others. NPR said there were claims that the occupying British forces had released man-eating badgers in the Basra area. NPR observed that badgers have been native to that part of the world for millenia. Yet the accusations persisted. "The British Army categorically denies releasing badgers in the Basra area, or anywhere."
When I researched this story on-line, all I could find was a story that described how a woman had some food taken out of her hands by a passing badger. So there was a dinner-eating badger.
