Seen too many abandoned, wrecked umbrellas

On windy, rainy days, I've had my umbrella turned inside out. I've never panicked and tried pulling the ribs back the right way around. It occurred to me that a wind that blew it inside out could blow the whole umbrella canopy at once, back the other way.
So I would point my giant fabric buttercup into the wind, and wait. I've never been disappointed.
And every once in a while, I'll see the sad, mangled remains of an umbrella, left on the street or in the top of an overflowing trash can. In over 30 years, I've never had an umbrella come apart that way, and I've delivered newspapers in a hurricane. So I suspect that some people, under stress, may not be aware of all their options in a crisis.
I hope this cartoon makes the point gently, by way of humor. And yes, my former marine friends approved of my likening the group of cats to the marines of the Iwo Jima Monument.
