... Onion chopping, to the 60's "Batman" theme

Why, yes, I am old enough to have watched the "Batman" TV show in first run. I recall Adam West from more than "Family Guy" (though I love his work as the mayor of Quahog).
And that's a great way to dice onions. Wear shop goggles. Stand the onion on its root end. Cut down, across the center, halfway through the onion. Give the onion a quarter turn on its root end, and cut again. Keep turning and cutting halfway between two other cuts, until the onion top looks like the spokes of a bicycle wheel.
Now turn the onion on its side and slice perpendicular to the radial cuts, until just before you'd cut off a circle slice. Turn the onion over, and cut from the root end, down. You'll only be able to cut into the middle, not all the way across. Once you've worked all the way around, you can dice from the side inward. And now you have a whole onion diced as small as you want.
